Ketogenic diet (Keto) is a low carbohydrate, moderate protein, with high fats. It may also be called a low carbohydrate and high fat diet (LCHF). Diabetes & Insulin Resistance
Diabetes (any type) means that you have too much sugar in your blood. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. (90% of all types). Type 2 diabetes makes it harder for the body to handle sugar in the blood. The problem is that the pancreas produces insulin, which has the job of signaling the cells to absorb the sugar, but signal is weakened and the cells are not absorbing the sugar in relationship to the insulin signal. So, the pancreas releases more Insulin, but the sugar is backing up in your system – creating two conditions – too much sugar becomes toxic and your body becomes resistant to insulin. Another side effect of too much insulin in your body is weight gain.
In type 2 diabetes the body has an increasingly harder time to handle all the sugar in the blood. Large amounts of the blood sugar-lowering hormone insulin are produced, but it’s still not enough, as insulin sensitivity decreases.
Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a symptom of Insulin Resistance (IR), which is also called hyperinsulinemia. So, we say that the cause of Type 2 Diabetes T2D) is Insulin Resistance (IR).Insulin Resistance Defined
Fat For Fuel
A primary cause of obesity, Insulin Resistance, Type 2 Diabetes, and other degenerative diseases is that our is not receiving sufficient amounts of fuel and damages to the mitochondria from poor quality food.
“Fat For Fuel” is based on the premise that our body requires metabolic flexibility to use both glucose and fat to fuel our mitochondria of our cells and our body. “The Standard American Diet” fails to support the burning of fat for fuel, because it is a high-carbohydrate diet for long periods of time – blocking our ability to effectively burn fat.

Hi, I am Bob Hockenberger, a Nutrition Educator, with a Master in Science Degree in Health and nutrition education from Hawthorne University in California. I have struggle with my weight, Type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure since my 40’s. I have done well, then went off the wagon more times than I want to count. I have found the Standard Diets for Type 2 diabetes has not work for me. I was always hungry and then I would bing on carbohydrates.
